In addition to my blog, I am keeping a sort of prayer journal. It is really a combination of prayers, scriptures that I want to write down, ramblings, thoughts, worries, praises, etc. Along with this, I have a small booklet that was given to me by a Pastor Counselor over 10 years ago, oddly enough from Clemson. He was one of those people from my past who made a lasting impression on me. A very gentle kind man who had a calming effect but also made you think. I went to see him during a challenging time in my life. During our sessions, he would give me “handouts”, all of which I have kept and come to treasure.
The small booklet of scriptures had been compiled by Dr. Stevenson throughout his years of counseling to comfort those who feel anxious, lonely, fearful, etc. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to this little homemade paper booklet and read something that brought me comfort and peace for that moment, that time in my life.
God knew what I needed to hear then, now and in the days to come. He knew that this day would come, that I would need to refer back to this booklet over and over today and in the days to come. He used Dr. Stevenson to reach me and to help me face a trial 10 years down the road! How amazing is that!
This morning as I sat in the quiet of our little living room and poured out my heart into my notebook, I opened the booklet and this was the 1st thing I read.
“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” Exodus 33:14
As I begin my first full week of treatment, I needed to be reminded of that. Thank you Lord…… and Dr. Stevenson.
